Dear People of God at St. Mark’s-in-the-Valley (including Friends and Neighbors),
I write to let you know that St. Mark’s will be practicing a Lenten fast from public worship on Sundays at least through the end of March (the end of Lent) as an expression of love for our neighbors, especially those most vulnerable to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.
All Sunday services are suspended while our campus remains open to members, our neighbors, and guests.
Social distancing (not gathering in groups) is a key component in slowing the spread of the virus and resulting illness.
Our Vestry, while making this decision in consensus, also has a significant and clear concern for maintaining our community connections. We will be forming care circles, in which members will maintain active communication with one another, each led by a member of the Vestry. If you know you wish to participate in a care circle, please notify Silvia Lucatero, our Community and Parish Programs Assistant at silvia@smitv.org. Additionally, all single members of the parish who are living alone will be invited to join the initial groups. Ideally, we will continue to expand to connect with everyone.
Also, in the coming days resources will be sent to you to continue to nurture your faith as part of St. Mark’s. We anticipate an online “service” that will be streamed on Facebook Live or similar. We also anticipate gathering in Zoom groups (online meetings) to keep in contact with one another and to share information and inspiration.
Our campus is not closed and the church is open every day. Think of having Church All the Time available. You will find music and special resources throughout each day at St. Mark’s - so feel free to stop by if you are feeling stir-crazy or just wanting to reconnect any day with this sacred space. This is the place we all share and care for – we can get re-grounded for all we are doing and moving through in these very trying and uncertain days.
It is not clear how long our services will be suspended nor how we will observe Holy Week and Easter this year.
But we are sure Christ is risen, indeed and that this constant movement to new life in the undying love of God our Savior never ends – is never suspended or restricted – nor overtaken, even by a global pandemic.
Please stay in touch with one another and with me, randall@smitv.org, as we make this uncharted journey, accompanied by the Spirit of all life.
Blessings,
Randall+
