The Boar's Head FestivalOn the Feast of the Epiphany
Saturday January 6th, 2024 Come celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany (Three Kings Day) with St. Mark’s-in-the-Valley’s annual Boar’s Head Festival beginning at 5 pm, Friday, January 6, 2024. Chef Mike will be roasting the pork! A sign-up sheet for deserts will be available closer to the event. Do you want to be in the cast? Look for the sign-up sheet in the back of the sanctuary or Stacy Hall for playing a part in the Pageant! Adults gather at 4. Children and youth gather for costumes and casting (no lines or songs to memorize or say!) as sheep, shepherds and angels at 4:30 pm. Meet in the Common Room on the breezeway along the courtyard at St. Mark's. No reservation needed; we will pass the hat for donations of any amount to defray cost. The Central Coast Pipe Band will be playing during the Pageant and the Feast. You will not want to miss this popular community event. We will enjoy songs and games at dinner and conclude the (real) Christmas season (the actual 12 days of Christmas that begin on Christmas Eve) and commemorate the arrival of the magi at the manger in Bethlehem. The traditional English boar's head festival dates back to the 1300s in Queen's College, Oxford. The festival is held on the Feast of the Epiphany, the day the Three Kings are said to have arrived in Bethlehem. |
